Caption: The glorious landscape of New Zealand's north and south islands has some similarities but the journey across Cook Strait does not prepare the traveller for the contrast or the strong indigenous culture. Most of the fabrics were purchased from artists and commercial suppliers along the journey. At the time I was reading 'The Devil's Cloth by Michel Pastoureau, a history of stripe and stripe fabric
